They say “when you know, you know.” This quote stands true for so many different situations. We were introduced to Heather Brooker via a mutual friend of ours and it was mommy love at first sight. Heather is the friend you almost pee in your pants laughing with (without judgement of course) and the friend you call when you need a shoulder to cry on. Not to mention she might be the most viral-tastic cat mom. Yes you need to see this Christmas cat video. She is quite possibly the coolest Mom you didn’t know you needed to know!

First let me say how honored I am to be included in the inaugural Millennial Mama of the week posts! Erin and Veena are special mamas to me and I can’t wait to see all of the fun things they share on this site. Now enough about them, more about me!
-
What does being a Mama mean to you? Before I had my daughter Channing I was very single-minded. It was all about me and my career as an actress. But holding this blue-eyed babe in my arms for the first time I knew nothing would ever be the same. She made me realize that life isn’t just about career goals and networking or getting to the bar before happy hour ends. It’s about caring for other people. If anything I would say being a Mama now means my heart and mind are much more open to helping and supporting other people. It’s something I’m constantly working towards.
-
What inspired you to create your own business? As an actress it’s hard to meet other moms in my field. It’s not like we all have an office to go to every day and talk about breastfeeding and sleep issues. So I created Motherhood in Hollywood podcast as a way to connect with other moms in my industry. What started as a podcast in my office, has blossomed into an entertainment website and business that has exceeded any dream I could have ever had.

Describe balance in your life. I know some people like to deflect this word and that’s okay. I embrace it because if I don’t have balance, I’m a hot mess! I have to manage my time with auditions, returning emails, writing, interviewing, going to events and family responsibilities otherwise my life would be chaos. I live and die by my calendars (I have two!) and set daily and weekly goals of things I want to accomplish. But most importantly, I don’t beat myself up if I don’t get everything done. Life happens and when it comes down to it, no one lives or dies if I miss a deadline.

We think that you are the epitome of modern motherhood. What does modern motherhood look like to you? First of all, thank you! Secondly, modern motherhood is more aware, more socially concious, more transparent than any generation before us. Modern moms have so many resources available to learn about safety, education, physical and psychologial information about their kids. We have opportunities to learn so much about parenting that I believe our generation of kids is going to change the world. That being said, nobody’s kids are perfect so let’s not put pressure on ourselves to be as perfect as the pictures we see on social media.

What apps can you not live without? Besides Instagram, I use Waze, Starbucks and of course my Podcast app everyday.
I have some incredible guests coming up on my podcast so everyone subscribe! Sherri Shepherd, Courtney Thorne-Smith, and DJ Paul Oakenfold are just a few of the celebs making an appearance on my show.
