Iceland- the land of trolls, elves and the handsome Vikings we have been used to seeing on TV. I recently took a trip with my husband to check out this fairy tale land. Besides being a little cold and wet, Iceland was full of adventures. From being dropped into the center of the earth in a volcano to snowmobiling on a Glacier, it is definitely a must see in this lifetime.
We traveled to Iceland on a red eye nonstop flight from LAX. We flew WOW airlines. It only took us 8 and a half hours to get there. We landed in Reykjavik at 1pm the next day. Our journey to Reykjavik took us through the majestic countryside of Iceland where we got to see the different art features of trolls across the land. The romantic ocean side farm houses painted red and white, sat quietly on green moss and surrounded by lava stone and sheep.
After the 40 minute ride we arrived in the heart of Reykjavik. We planned our stay at the Hilton Nordica in the center of the metropolitan city. Surrounded by beautiful streets and foodie approved restaurants we were ready to start our adventures.
The first day we went to the center of the world. We hiked through two miles of lava fields to be dropped into the center of a volcano. The walk reminded me of the troll scene from frozen. Lava fields covered in moss for as far as the eye could see. When we finally arrived the adeline from the walk took over. We were slowly lowered into the volcano to explore the rocks who were grazed by the furry of the earth.
The second day we drove through the countryside of Iceland into the glacier that remains. We crossed the glacier by vehicle to explore the Glacier Cave. Although it was man made we got to see what walking through a real glacier tunnel would look like. Luckily this one was safely approved. After exploring the cave we were off on high speed snow mobiles to get our hearts pumping.
For dinner each night we headed into town. On the menu in Iceland you could order anything from burgers to horse, puffin or whale. Many of those with us had to enjoy the local cuisine.
We ended our adventure at one of the most famous spas in the world, The Blue Lagoon. Soaking in the geothermal spa was nothing but perfection and a must on your bucket list!
Iceland is definitely an adventure that you need to take.
