With Fall in full swing and the holidays right around the corner, we are already beginning our themed decorations. There is nothing more fun than personalizing pieces of your decor. While we have a ton of fun DIYs and crafts lined up to share with you, we are starting with a Fall DIY floormat.
Materials Needed Buffalo Check DIY Fall Floormat”Hey There Pumpkin”:
- Coir Mat
- Craftsmade Acrylic Outdoor Paint in desired colors
- Painters Tape
- Acrylic or hard fine bristle brush
- Blowdryer
- Ruler
- Choose your favorite motto
- Type it in your favorite font(s)
- You can use a Cricut or Silhouette Cameo which will laser cut onto vinyl paper. I used Oracle 651 paper which can be cheaper than the Cricut products
- Print your new motto onto regular paper, then use transfer paper to transfer onto vinyl stencil film and cut with an exacto pen or hot knife
- Remove the backing and adhere the vinyl directly on to the coir mat
- Use a blow dyer on hot to make sure the vinyl attaches securely on to the mat so that you can paint clean, easy to read words
- Paint your stencil with Craftsmade Outdoor Acrylic Paint with a firm bristle or acrylic paint brush (*tip we used painters tape to create a border to put stencil in to ensure it was centered)
- Tape off a one inch border as well as a three inch border (see photos)
- Then tape off sections that are 1 1/2 inches to start first layer of buffalo check (see photos)
- Begin with white squares in the first layer, every other 1 1/2 inch. Then proceed with gray in between the white
- Wait for it to dry and then move on to the inner layer. Tape off the 1 1/2 inches (see photos)
- Gray square in the inner layer above white squares in the first layer
- Black squares above the gray squares in the first layer
- Wait for it to dry, remove all tape and you have your own personalized DIY Fall Floormat
