On January 12th, the much anticipated sequel to Paddington hits theaters. In the first movie we fell in love with Paddington the Bear as he travels from the darkest of Peru to London where he meets the Brown family. This original movie makes you laugh until you cry but there are also some scarier/darker parts that some of my kiddo’s friends did not love; however, the second movie replaces any dark/scary parts with endearing scenes. If you loved Paddington in the first movie, you will seriously be smitten with him in the second movie. The adorable lines about the lessons that Aunt Lucy has taught him will make your heart smile minus the “hard stare” that will give you the goosebumps it is so intense.
One of my all time favorite lines of the movie is,“Paddington looks for the good in all of us, and somehow he finds it.” It is true, somehow in the strangest of situations P’s ability to stay true to himself and the goodness he sees in others seems to lead P to success in life. This movie is magical and heartwarming, not to mention it’s even funnier than the original. I love that this movie reminds us that being kind, compassionate and honest will triumph evil in the end. I also love that Paddington is the eternal optimist and brings sunshine wherever he goes. He will have you smiling ear to ear the entire movie. It is no surprise that P2 currently has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hugh Grant was a great addition to the cast as the evil Phoenix Buchanan, who plays Paddington’s archenemy but not the for the straight forward reasons. Phoenix and Paddington are both after a pop-up book of London, Paddington as a gift for Aunt Lucy and Phoenix for the clues to a treasure chest to lead him finally to financial success.
You will love this movie and as soon as the movie ends, you will find yourself wanting to stay in your seat and watch it again!
